NYC: Public Ceremony
I bought this postcard at the MoMA Design and Book Store. According to Terence Riley, “[Architect] Nitzchke designed the Maison de Publicité Project for a hypothetical site on the Champs-Elysées… A steel lattice would support images, logos, and other illuminated messages which would be in a constant state of flux.”

That got me to thinking… the digital equivalent of this concept is an eye-catching, animated homepage. Nitzchke’s drawing reminded me of Opening Ceremony’s website in particular:
Opening Ceremony “is a multifaceted retail environment comprised of shops, showroom, and private label collection” whose lofty flag has been flying high since 2002. Vive la publicité!

Update on Aug. 19, 2012: Opening Ceremony is celebrating its 10-year anniversary this year. Here’s to being a great design destination for a decade–and still going strong.
