OK folks, I can’t believe I’m gonna utter these words but there’s a first time for everything: hooray for tax season! No, I’m not an accountant who gets paid for each tax return processed. As a first-time home buyer in 2012, I’ve just reaped the benefits of that glorious mortgage income tax deduction. It seems that hell has finally frozen over because I actually got a refund. (Is there a sweeter word in the English language? C’mon, let’s say it again. Refund. Sigh.) For the past decade, I’ve somehow always owed 100 dollars here, fifty bucks there. But not this year!

Before getting too carried away, my refund wasn’t exactly a windfall so the Tesla will have to wait. I’m putting aside part of the money for a long overdue vacation. What to do with the rest? Hmm, how about a brand new dresser!

When I last left you, our bedroom dresser situation looked like this:

Behold the “before” shot. Meh.

After doing a ton of research, I honed in on a six-drawer dresser from West Elm. It was the right height (below the chair rail) and width. I visited a store to examine it in person and then placed the order online. Three weeks later, it was delivered pre-assembled:

Much better, right? The dresser makes our room look bigger. Plus, it’s very sturdy and substantial. Not only is there a support leg in the middle, but all of the legs have rubber feet to protect the floors. The drawers pull out smoothly and are finished on the inside.

The vignette on top is still a fun work in progress:

A runway for display. I especially like the crystal cake stand I bought on Amazon which serves my bracelets.

A complimentary/complementary shot of hot pink:

A postcard memento from a Kate Spade shipment.

One final image:

Using the panorama feature on my iPhone camera made the photo look warped but you get the idea.

The dresser is currently no longer available in the six-drawer model. Apartment Therapy recently featured the smaller version in its round-up of “Favorite Modern Dressers.” I can now rest easy.

Update on April 29, 2014: Apparently the new craze on Instagram is the “#shelfie”—photos of your artfully arranged stuff as a way to showcase your great taste. I referred to this helpful guide to improve my own woeful vignette-creating skills. Here’s the latest incarnation of my dresser display:
