About
After experiencing an “I have a voice!” revelatory moment, I finally got the guts to start this blog in June 2011. It’s a creative outlet to share my particular style philosophy and quirky observations with the world.
Why fashion? Well, I started sketching as an only child growing up in the Philly suburbs. When I was in middle school, I took fashion illustration courses at local colleges and almost applied to Parsons. I’ve had a subscription to Vogue since, like, forever. And I have a strong opinion about what I like and what I don’t. Being decisive and obsessed with details, budget and the overall picture serves me well in my day job as a digital product manager; it also comes in handy when considering trends and shopping.
I am The Practical Fashionista, and I live by these principles:
- Aim for a seasonless wardrobe.
- Clothes and shoes have to be comfortable. (Spanx? No, thanks.)
- Wear natural fabrics like cotton and cashmere.
- A great bargain is delightful but a few things are worth paying full price.
- Practical doesn’t mean boring.
My personal style? Mainly sportswear. Preppy with a twist. And color!
What works for me? J.Crew, Kate Spade bags, Nike kicks, Wolford tights, AGL flats.
What doesn’t? Bohemian, jeggings, high-waisted jeans, UGGs, maxi dresses, bubble skirts, goth, grunge…[breaking into hives].
In short order, my blog has evolved to include home decor ideas (buying a house will do that to you) and photos from my travels. And my secret sauce: what I categorize as Cool Associations—when I see patterns and connections between seemingly disparate things.
These “Best Of” compilation posts will quickly give you an idea of my writing and range: Personal Bests of 2011, 2012 and 2013.
Thank you for stopping by!
