Jen Rocks Fashion » Double-Take Tuesdays http://jenrocksfashion.com Colorful Musings from the Practical Fashionista... Tue, 24 Dec 2013 01:23:47 +0000 en hourly 1 http://wordpress.org/?v=3.7.1 Double-Take Tuesday (well, sort of…) http://jenrocksfashion.com/2013/01/29/double-take-tuesday-well-sort-of/?utm_source=rss&utm_medium=rss&utm_campaign=double-take-tuesday-well-sort-of http://jenrocksfashion.com/2013/01/29/double-take-tuesday-well-sort-of/#comments Tue, 29 Jan 2013 12:26:28 +0000 http://jenrocksfashion.com/?p=4505 I had a couple of decent ideas for this post but neither one really rang true as a slam-dunk Double-Take.

My first attempt was Lukas Haas and Alex Honnold. They both have similar-shaped noses, big ears that stick out, and the same hair color and texture. Still, it was close but no cigar:

Actor Lukas Haas. Best known (in my mind, at least) for his role when he was 9 years old as Samuel in the 1985 movie “Witness” with Harrison Ford. More recently, he appeared in “Inception” with Leonardo DiCaprio.

Alex Honnold, the best big wall free solo climber in the world (i.e. he’s a rock climber extraordinaire who doesn’t use rope, harnesses or other safety gear). He has completed the only known free solo climb of the Yosemite Triple crown.

My other possibility was Dylan McDermott and Gerard Butler. They share the same piercing blue eyes, man-scaping and mouth shape. Unfortunately, Dylan’s rectangular face versus Gerard’s round one are irreconcilable differences:

Actor Dylan McDermott, who starred in the series “The Practice” from 1997 through 2004. He’s currently on FX’s “American Horror Story.”

Hunky Scottish actor Gerard Butler, who starred in the movie “300″ as well as some lame romantic comedies like “P.S. I Love You” and “Playing for Keeps.”

So while I regroup and take some time to come up with a fresh crop of Double-Takes, here are two sources of inspiration from my Twitter feed.

Virgin Media is holding a contest via Facebook for celebrity lookalikes:

Sir Richard Branson’s doppelgänger.

And the image-sharing site Imgur features some of the work of François Brunelle, who was also just interviewed on NPR. Mr. Brunelle photographs people who look very similar to each other but are completely unrelated:

Amazing: seeing double.

(That show could give “Whitney” a run for its excruciatingly annoying money.) The episode featured 26-year-old actress Brittany Snow who could be mistaken for a young Edie Falco—or, put another way, Ms. Falco could be her mom. Check it out: similar jaw line, choppy blond hair, smile, and eye shape and color.

Actress Brittany Snow. You might remember her from the NBC series “American Dreams.”

Golden-Globe-winning actress Edie Falco (a.k.a. Carmela Soprano and Nurse Jackie).

A couple of weeks ago, I was watching a “60 Minutes” segment about how the venerable New Orleans newspaper The Times-Picayune had to scale back its operations. During that piece, Morley Safer interviewed the city’s mayor Mitch Landrieu. Follicly-challenged with light eyes, strong chin and high nose bridge, he’s the spittin’ image of tough guy actor Michael Chiklis!

Mayor of the Crescent City, Joseph “Mitch” Landrieu.

Actor Michael Chiklis who starred in the TV cop dramas “The Shield” and “The Commish.”

Double-Take Tuesday: Anthony Carrino and… http://jenrocksfashion.com/2013/01/08/double-take-tuesday-anthony-carrino-and/?utm_source=rss&utm_medium=rss&utm_campaign=double-take-tuesday-anthony-carrino-and http://jenrocksfashion.com/2013/01/08/double-take-tuesday-anthony-carrino-and/#comments Tue, 08 Jan 2013 13:09:27 +0000 http://jenrocksfashion.com/?p=4410 OK, I’ll come clean: I have a minor addiction to HGTV. (Are you really surprised?) House Hunters, House Hunters International, Property Brothers, Selling New York—you name it, I’ve probably seen at least an episode or ten. The shows are an irresistible gateway drug for nesting junkies—a can’t-miss combo of aspirational, inspirational, practical, voyeuristic and entertaining stuff. So what if some of the content happens to be fake? That’s not gonna stop me from gawking at edgeless glass spa showers and vintage pendant lights. And if I ever lose my mind and decide to undertake a gut renovation, I’m gonna hire the Cousins on Call, one of whom is construction project manager Anthony Carrino. He looks exactly like a combo of two famous people. (Perhaps I should have labeled this post a Triple-Take. By the way, I’ve only done one other three-way.)

HGTV’s Anthony Carrino, co-host of the new show “Cousins on Call.”

Wouldn’t you agree that his face is a mash-up of George Clooney (I know, it’s sacrilegious to compare Gorgeous George to anyone) and far-from-the-A-list comedian/actor Joe Rogan?

The one and only George Clooney: Oscar-awarding-winning actor, director, producer, Sexiest Man Alive, humanitarian, ladies’ man extraordinaire.

Joe Rogan: I remember him best as the host of that low-brow, extreme game show “Fear Factor.”

Double-Take Tuesday: Ike Barinholtz and Chris Cooper http://jenrocksfashion.com/2013/01/01/double-take-tuesday-ike-barinholtz-and-chris-cooper/?utm_source=rss&utm_medium=rss&utm_campaign=double-take-tuesday-ike-barinholtz-and-chris-cooper http://jenrocksfashion.com/2013/01/01/double-take-tuesday-ike-barinholtz-and-chris-cooper/#comments Tue, 01 Jan 2013 22:24:39 +0000 http://jenrocksfashion.com/?p=4395 Happy New Year 2013! I spent a very low-key NYE at home with Andrew. We channel-surfed between Carson “my-forehead-is-a-rectangle” Daly; the lame, utterly uninspired movie “New Year’s Eve” (which was on a forgettable cable channel like Lifetime or FX); and Kathy Griffin doing her best to make Anderson Cooper squirm and giggle (is that a wrestling move?). Unlike my quiet evening, some of you might still be working off a Veuve Clicquot-induced hangover from last night’s revelry so this Double-Take is short and sweet.

I found out about the “The Mindy Project” on FOX, ironically, through NPR. Back in September, actress/producer/writer Mindy Kaling did an interview on Fresh Air about her new show. Although I was only mildly interested at the time (having never watched “The Office“), I’ve caught a few episodes over the past few months. It’s good! It’s funny! And she’s a normal-sized woman! You can read a recap of the Season 1 finale here but it featured some hilarious one-liners delivered by Morgan, the brawny and goofy male nurse. Morgan is played by actor Ike Barinholtz. At first, I thought he resembled Keanu Reeves. However, upon closer inspection, I think Ike looks more like a younger version of versatile movie star Chris Cooper.

Ike Barinholtz, who plays nurse Morgan Tookers on “The Mindy Project.” He apparently has also starred in HBO’s “Eastbound & Down” and “The League” on FX (so maybe it is a decent cable channel after all).

Actor Chris Cooper. I remember him best as Conklin in “The Bourne Identity.” Other movie credits include “American Beauty,” “Seabiscuit” and “Adaptation.”

Double-Take Tuesday: Ty Burrell and Count Chocula http://jenrocksfashion.com/2012/12/25/double-take-tuesday-ty-burrell-and-count-chocula/?utm_source=rss&utm_medium=rss&utm_campaign=double-take-tuesday-ty-burrell-and-count-chocula http://jenrocksfashion.com/2012/12/25/double-take-tuesday-ty-burrell-and-count-chocula/#comments Tue, 25 Dec 2012 22:28:56 +0000 http://jenrocksfashion.com/?p=4261 Merry Christmas everyone! Here’s a quick and light-hearted Double-Take. Granted, it’s not related to the holiday in any way but I think it’s cute.

Oh Modern Family! How you disappoint me so. Perhaps all those Emmys and Golden Globes made you too complacent because your fourth season on ABC was sadly hit-or-miss. Once upon a time, you were sure-fire funny. The scenarios and jokes then became a bit forced. And with Haley now off at college and va-va-voom Gloria getting knocked up by Al Bundy (oops, I mean Jay Pritchett)—I dunno, your snappiness and comedic timing seemed off too.

While your bantering and bickering gay couple Mitch and Cam are still endearing, my favorite pair will always be Type A soccer mom Claire Dunphy and her klutzy but well-meaning hubby Phil. Doesn’t the actor who plays Mr. Dunphy look astonishingly similar to a certain beloved cereal mascot? The long, pointy ears. The sharp chin. The brunette widow’s peak. The dimple placement. I could go on. His appearance distracts me just enough to hope that you find your spark again next year. Here’s a hint: may your characters have more depth than a cartoon.

Actor Ty Burrell.

Count Chocula, one of General Mills’ monster cereal mascots since 1971.

Double-Take Tuesday: Whitney Cummings and Yoanna House http://jenrocksfashion.com/2012/12/18/double-take-tuesday-whitney-cummings-and-yoanna-house/?utm_source=rss&utm_medium=rss&utm_campaign=double-take-tuesday-whitney-cummings-and-yoanna-house http://jenrocksfashion.com/2012/12/18/double-take-tuesday-whitney-cummings-and-yoanna-house/#comments Tue, 18 Dec 2012 12:18:18 +0000 http://jenrocksfashion.com/?p=4193 Andrew has made a valiant effort trying to convince me that Whitney Cummings is funny. At the very least, he wants me to acknowledge the possibility that she could be slightly funny under the right circumstances. Ha! Dream on! Tuning into her NBC sitcom “Whitney” for one measly episode had me lunging for the remote in exactly one minute and four seconds. (I mean, how can she actually be called a comedian? That’s just an insult to genuinely funny people like Louis C.K.) The fact that she’s also co-creator of that corny, idiotic comedy “Two Broke Girls” on CBS does not give her brownie points. Instead, it ratchets up my disrespect!

Lest you think my haterade is unfair, I have noticed one likeable thing about Ms. Cummings: she could be related to Yoanna House, the Season 2 winner of “America’s Next Top Model.” Notice I didn’t say they could be identical twins. Whitney’s oval (horsey?) facial shape differs from Yoanna’s squarish jawline. And Yoanna has a slightly longer paraphiltrum (the skin between the nose and the upper lip). But they both have big, clear hazel eyes; full lips; and dark, straight hair (extensions?). So I think they could be cousins–and I bet Yoanna can tell better jokes.

So-called comedian Whitney Cummings. (I could care less about her filmography.)

Model and reality TV personality Yoanna House.

Double-Take Tuesday: Kelly Ayotte and Jeanne Tripplehorn http://jenrocksfashion.com/2012/12/11/double-take-tuesday-kelly-ayotte-and-jeanne-tripplehorn/?utm_source=rss&utm_medium=rss&utm_campaign=double-take-tuesday-kelly-ayotte-and-jeanne-tripplehorn http://jenrocksfashion.com/2012/12/11/double-take-tuesday-kelly-ayotte-and-jeanne-tripplehorn/#comments Tue, 11 Dec 2012 12:25:23 +0000 http://jenrocksfashion.com/?p=4120 I was going all-out for the hat trick this week! As a follow-up to Demi Moore and Kenya Moore, I attempted to find hottie actor Shemar Moore‘s long-lost twin. The best I could do was retired NFL player Jason Taylor:

Actor Shemar Moore. You might know him from the CBS drama “Criminal Minds” or the soap opera “The Young and the Restless” back in the day. (Great smile, right?)

Former NFL linebacker/defensive end Jason Taylor who played most of his career as a Miami Dolphin.

Since that pairing didn’t quite live up to my standards, I decided to give you a bonus double-take. (What can I say? It’s your lucky day!) Actually, I can’t take credit for this gem. It was my best friend Susan who tipped me off to this astoundingly similar duo:

Senator Kelly Ayotte (R-N.H.) who is a fiscal and social conservative. (No further comment.)

Actress Jeanne Tripplehorn who apparently stars in “Criminal Minds” too. Some of her movie credits include “The Firm” with Tom Cruise, “Basic Instinct” with a panty-less Sharon Stone, and the infamously bad “Waterworld.”

Info about Kelly Ayotte from Roll Call and The Washington Post.

Jason Taylor’s stats via ESPN.

Double-Take Tuesday: Kenya Moore and Natalie Cole http://jenrocksfashion.com/2012/12/04/double-take-tuesday-kenya-moore-and-natalie-cole/?utm_source=rss&utm_medium=rss&utm_campaign=double-take-tuesday-kenya-moore-and-natalie-cole http://jenrocksfashion.com/2012/12/04/double-take-tuesday-kenya-moore-and-natalie-cole/#comments Tue, 04 Dec 2012 12:42:18 +0000 http://jenrocksfashion.com/?p=4054 Last week during my usual multi-tasking, domestic frenzy, I managed to catch an episode of “The Real Housewives of Atlanta.” To be fair, my TV viewing was interspersed with checking on the laundry, tweeting, Swiffering, and simmering a stew. Don’t judge me. I hang my head in shame. But hey, it’s not like I’m secretly DVR-ing episodes…

If you’ve ever seen the show, you know that the Hotlanta divas know how to do ridiculous drama where everything flies (figuratively and sometimes literally): insults, fur, wigs. The most entertaining RHOA is of course NeNe Leakes. Famous enough now to go by first name alone, she’s the strong and sassy scene-stealer.

One of the newest provocateurs on the block is Kenya Moore. She’s a former Miss USA (like, waaay back in the day) and self-proclaimed media mogul who’s desperate for her dweeb of a boyfriend Walter to propose with some ginormous bling.

Inane plot lines aside, Ms. Moore bears a striking resemblance to Grammy Award-winning singer Natalie Cole. Hazel eyes, similar mouth shape, bone structure. (Almost everything but the voice.)

Kenya Moore, a former Miss USA and legend in her own mind.

Natalie Cole, daughter of “Unforgettable” legendary singer Nat King Cole.

IMDB links: Kenya Moore, Natalie Cole.

P.S. Do you think I should try for a “Moore” hat trick next week? I featured Demi last week and Kenya today. Perhaps it’s time for Shemar?

Double-Take Tuesday: Demi Moore and Kyle Richards http://jenrocksfashion.com/2012/11/27/double-take-tuesday-demi-moore-and-kyle-richards/?utm_source=rss&utm_medium=rss&utm_campaign=double-take-tuesday-demi-moore-and-kyle-richards http://jenrocksfashion.com/2012/11/27/double-take-tuesday-demi-moore-and-kyle-richards/#comments Tue, 27 Nov 2012 12:33:36 +0000 http://jenrocksfashion.com/?p=4036 Did ya know that Demi Moore just turned fifty years old? It’s sort of tragic that she can’t seem to make peace with her age. Her life has been all topsy-turvy since she split from her cheating, boy-toy babe of a husband Ashton Kutcher last November. She apparently ingested a combo of “Aderall, Red Bull and nitrous oxide” which led to an epileptic seizure, hospitalization and rehab. Her kids then cut off contact following more erratic behavior. And she’s now dragging out finalizing the divorce due to jealousy over Ashton’s romance with Mila Kunis. (What’s that saying about hell hath no fury?)

Well, in spite of all the plastic surgery that she denies ever having undergone, Demi still resembles “Real Housewife of Beverly Hills” Kyle Richards. Both have long brunette locks, hazel eyes and good bone structure. If Demi could just eat some cooked food and fill out a little more, she would look less mannish and less angular with softer curves like Kyle, which wouldn’t be a bad thing.

Demi Moore: actress, tabloid fixture. I remember her best for “St. Elmo’s Fire,” “Indecent Proposal” and last year’s “Margin Call.”

Kyle Richards: RHOBH and Paris Hilton’s aunt.

IMDB links: Demi Moore, Kyle Richards.

Update on Nov. 30, 2012: In case you were losing sleep over the state of Demi Moore’s love life, fear not! She’s reportedly now dating Vito Schnabel, the 26-year-old son of artist Julian Schnabel. (Yes, that would be a 24-year age difference.)
